Be-hoot-i-ful!

This colourful little chappie has had quite an adventure in his first few days!

The pattern came from Liz's fabulous colourful blog Amigurumi Barmy.
A parliament of her wise woolly owls are the cover stars of the current edition of Craftseller magazine. She also designs for Inside Crochet..
(as do the talented Tracey, Lynne and Emma amongst others!)

Its been a while since I amigurumied but Liz's pattern was great to follow and was hooked during a Star Wars film!

His eyes are needlefelted and his beak stitches of bright yellow yarn
(from a longer length of TUSAL!)
He busted 8g of stash!

He was given as a 6th birthday present and taken to school the next day..how exciting!
I'm sure there'll be some more mini hooters flying off the hook soon!

Last week was International Knit in Public week - whilst racing out of the door to collect RW Junior and his friend from the cinema I grabbed a small ball of wool, a 4mm hook and a pair of scissors.
I stood outside the pictures, at the top of the shopping centre, amongst the Friday evening diners and filmgoers, and crocheted 2 halves of a granny pocket heart!
At one point the ball of wool leapt out of my pocket and ran across the shiny floor - I have the ideal solution for that in bag form..as I am intending to repeat the whole crochet while you wait experience!

Bow Ties are cool!

My dad had a birthday this week...his card was in true Dr Who style

'Bow ties are cool' declared the Doctor
'...and so is my dad!' say I.

I remembered   Zoe's bows  and her pattern started me off on my experimentation...
having decided  it needed a larger middle I fiddled around
(with two rows of dcs, chains on the corners and trebles on the ends)
until the right shape was found.

In terms of stash busting its a really tiny 3g..
I think June will be full of lots of little projects!

'Spoilers Sweetie':
Ironically Matt Smith made his big announcement on the same day...I wonder which clothing items will be made popular next year?!

Proudly continuing the geeky theme Tracey has recently completed a quirky Sheldon amigurumi, and I hope to have a go at some of Lucy Ravenscar's characters soon.
Helen's versions of Lucy's Star Wars characters set me on course for a galaxy far far away!
Geek Crafts is a regular read on my blog list - there are oodles of amazingly inspirational projects on many current and cult themes.

In the meantime I might boldly go and try something Star Trek related  - loved the film!

Out of this world!

Fantastic!
I have finished not one of the granny square projects I showed a sneak peek of here....but two!

The second has been given as a present and the first is waiting to be hung when we find a space here!

I have learned a lot during the making of these....
not all of my grannies are the same size - (especially from the first,  made with superwash merino -  the second with acrylic was a bit more uniform!)....
a Tardis has 8 blocks not 6....
the first Tardis is much bigger on the outside
tapestry wool can be substituted when the original ball runs out (see previous two points)

blocking can really straighten wiggly lines..

.. its great to formulate the pattern as you go along....
there probably won't be two the same (see previous point)

I looooove the flow of making granny squares!

One of the first projects I wished to make was from this pattern...for a while the magic circle eluded me so I put it on hold....until this week when these four cheeky monsters fell to earth from my hook!

I needlefelted their features (designed by RWJnr)....

the success of the needlefelting surprised me as a lot of the fibres are not natural - but they all stuck fast so I'll certainly do that again!

I've already had a request for some more...so expect some future monsterous activity!

Linda has introduced her readers to The Totally Useless Stitch Along ...the original link is here.....I think its a great idea and have started a pot of yarn ends....

I usually keep my high wool content ends to felt with so I might have a two pronged approach to this.
I'm waiting for someone at home to ask what the pot is doing here...wonder how long it will be...perhaps they realise its just another of my strange collections!

Looking forward to some more joint collaborations with RWJnr over the summer!
