Happy Birthday!

A very special young lady has a special birthday today

She is a talented textiles student, so her card was made full of colour and texture! 

The back reveals the greeting - rolled and tucked under the bows!

Part of her present is something small and shiny

packed into an extra tiny bag - pass the parcel!

It is made with Blossom stitch from Sarah Hazell's book, packed full of inspiration!

Colourful Numbers!

Having recently updated my calendar I realise I will be sending quite a few of these cards this year and next!

The numbers are from Tamara's blog and so easy to follow and hook.

An 80 escaped being photographed in December!

The FAB wool was a Christmas present, I love the variegated colours and it is so versatile .

To celebrate I am hoping to create granny pocket hearts totalling one tenth of the total number of posts, figuring 20 is more manageable than 200!
They will be sent to heartsease HQ where Ruth and Belinda will send them onto Kids Company.

Birthday Bag!

A special little girl turned six this week, here is her pressie!

The bag was hooked a while ago. 

The front is based on the granny square my friend Tracey designed for Craftseller magazine

 Once the square was complete the back and inside were made from continuous alternating colourful rows of trebles.

It had hung around in my nearly finished box awaiting something to line it 

(that did not require sewing!) until I found a little purse that just fitted the space perfectly!

The finishing touch - a handle in a simple row of chains using all four colours...

grannies are soooo versatile!

This months Inside Crochet has lots of gorgeous granny inspired projects,
thanks to Tracey I have been able to indulge in a copy!

As the bag was made before I was stash-busting I am only counting the handle 

which hangs out at a surprising 29g !

More Daisies!

Happy Birthday to one of our Nieces! 

She has recently bought a stunning dress covered in 9 petalled, black centred daisies. 

This bloom has been sent in the post.

 There are lawn-fuls of Daisy patterns around - but I made my own, tweaking my dragonfly wings pattern and stash busted 9g in the planning and execution.

I might try some more with yellow centres and a few more petals....

Whilst hooking earlier daisies, Ali over at the Creations of Crazy Dazy was making her own beautifully knitted daisy chain - her fab photo tutorial and patten can be found here. 

These sunny pictures are reminding me of the beautiful weather we have had ...

Bow Ties are cool!

My dad had a birthday this week...his card was in true Dr Who style

'Bow ties are cool' declared the Doctor

'...and so is my dad!' say I.

I remembered   Zoe's bows  and her pattern started me off on my experimentation...
having decided  it needed a larger middle I fiddled around
(with two rows of dcs, chains on the corners and trebles on the ends)
until the right shape was found.

In terms of stash busting its a really tiny 3g..

I think June will be full of lots of little projects!

Ironically Matt Smith made his big announcement on the same day...I wonder which clothing items will be made popular next year?!

Proudly continuing the geeky theme Tracey has recently completed a quirky Sheldon amigurumi, and I hope to have a go at some of Lucy Ravenscar's characters soon.

Helen's versions of Lucy's Star Wars characters set me on course for a galaxy far far away!

Geek Crafts is a regular read on my blog list - there are oodles of amazingly inspirational projects on many current and cult themes.

In the meantime I might boldly go and try something Star Trek related  - loved the film!

February really is full of fun birthdays and celebrations!

It is one year since I made my first chain and became hooked  on crochet...

and two years since the first words were typed onto the Random-Wooliness blog!

I have met so many inspiring creators in that time, learned an incredible amount from the crafting cyber community and made some very good bloggy friends.

Thank you all for your inspirational images, wonderful words.
and encouraging comments.

 This is my 150th post and I hope one of many more to come!

Presents of the Birthday variety!

We have a fair few family and friends birthdays in the run up to the festive season and just beyond.... 

when I first started to crochet I bookmarked lots of online patterns - one was the

Little Granny envelope bag

which I have made for my niece

The granny was great to hook in sumptuously soft Rowan Handknit Cotton. I made up my own strap - which took considerably longer than the square 

(measured in Sherlocks - it took two (90minute) episodes!). 

An edging to match the strap was added to the flap and a perfectly coloured button from a random button tub. Its lined with a square from an old shirt.

I enjoyed the photo shoot in a borrowed autumnal garden!

A heart to hang has travelled North...

this is my own design and comes out a slightly different shape with each yarn used.

The one above is cotton yarn with sewing thread.

These were DK red and laceweight white wool.

Christmas crochet is happening at a cracking pace...there are lots of designs and projects in the pipeline - all at various stages of in progressness! 

There will also be some festive felt to share with you....

better get back to the making.

Flame On!

This is the card we gave Mum for her birthday...

It started as the fourth piece of wet felt created for The dying of the Sun...seen here on the right on the line of fire!

There's a bit of everything incorporated into the needlefelting, two types of Teeswater curls and mainly shetland tops with some sari silk...

...and some crochet. 

I suppose the crochet flames could be considered my first free form crochet as I just hooked a few stitches until I got a flame shape.  They then took on a completely different form as they were needlefelted onto the piece..

I'm amazed how much my style has changed from this

to this in just a year. 

I'm always on the look out for frames and this is a great one from B and M bargains last year. The glass has been removed but the mount had padded foam on the back and a polystyrene sheet is included to pack out the box style. I might have to pop in and pick up some more, though I have quite a collection of shapes and sizes as I buy them when I see them. Also I'm never quite sure what size a finished item might be!

Part of mum's present was a crochet Poinsettia brooch from my daffodil pattern,
with a few more petals of different widths, and...you've guessed it...

a needlefelted middle!

A very special friend has her birthday today....

... I can't show you too much as the present has not been given yet...but at least one of you will recognise some things in the picture!
