Rainbow Chevrons

A special young lady was eight last weekend. She has a passion for stationery.
A Fiber Flux pattern was tweaked for cotton in my stash,
extra stitches as my yarn weight was less than the pattern,
extra rows to make a rainbow,

a splash of pink to fill the gaps...

...and a bright green button.

A unique pencil case - no-one else has one quite like this!

It was interesting to work with several brands of cotton in one project
...quality and price go hand in hand!

49g of cotton busted

I hear it was proudly the subject of show and tell....
Happy Birthday! May your days be filled with rainbows! x

Wool Week

Quite by chance I am doing something exciting with wool on Sunday and I will be mentioning Wool Week as I do so.
To prepare my materials I had to order some rather uninspiring but very necessary natural Shetland top from Sara's Texture Crafts. I love working with Shetland and much prefer it to Merino -  I said 'uninspiring' as you will know by now that I am rather fond of colour (often more than one at a time!) and Sara has some amazing hand dyed Shetland tops in fabulous hues but I restrained myself as my hamper of fluff is already stuffed and overflowing.

However I did sneak something colourful into my order that I have had my eye on for a while...

It really is as good as I imagined, if not better!
...I loved watching the tones and colours change as I wound it into this....

....beautifully soft rainbow....

...perfectly palm sized!

I can't wait to use it....

Birthday Rainbow Owl!

When I began to crochet earlier this year I made a list of projects...(written in longhand in a notebook!)...that I would like to hook...one of them was the fab Emma Varnam's Cutie Hootie Owl.

Thinking that it was a long term aim to be able to make something with shape, a pattern and with more than four rows I had forgotten all about it until  I re-read my little list. I printed off the pattern and with a special little lady's fifth birthday in mind a rainbow version was begun. It was completed with greater ease than anticipated due to Emma's detailed instructions and some obsessive stitch counting!
So without further ado.. here he is..made with a larger hook and therefore a little bigger..but still cute..I hope!

He's a little shy so maybe if you read a bit further he might feel more comfortable and show his true colours! He has the usual Random Wooliness needlefelted features and was photographed just as the sun was setting on an August evening...quite an appropriate time for an owl to come out!

Emma describes her Cutie Hootie Owl as 'a perfect little mascot for those back to school blues' as he can carry a little message under his wing.
Rainbow owl carried a birthday message...

but he could equally have sent a 'Happy First day at School' as the recipient has today had the excitement of her first school day!

I'd like to wish everyone starting (back) at school or college a
Happy and Successful New Year
(one reader especially who is bravely (re) tackling a tricky subject)!
The message of course includes those who are teaching and/or learning....which often goes both ways...as my Granddad always said...'You learn something new every day'!

Sadly the time at which the photos of Rainbow Owl were taken is now engulfed in darkness due to the shortening of days...however the sunny September weather we are having here is creating some stunning sunsets!
That brings me seamlessly onto my next post.....
but you'll have to wait a little for that....

Rainbows

To keep my fingers busy on long evenings watching tv I'm winding these lovely yarns round my flower loom...

one is Rowan Colourscape chunky by Kaffe Fasset....100% lambswool
in candy pink....shade 434

from one 100g skein I have lots of different multi coloured yarns

The other is  Knitcol by Adriafil 100% merino shade 60 Rousseau phantasy

I must admit though I have to have full screen concentration for certain programmes..not relishing the final ever episode of Spooks tomorrow night!

I can sing a rainbow!

I had intended to do more crafty posts but the explosion of colour in the garden has given me other ideas!
Red...
..and yellow...
..and pink
..and pink again!
..and green...
